ABOUT
THE AUTHOR’S:
1. Dr. Virendra Singh, India's renowned seabuckthorn expert is working at
CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur. He has been working on
seabuckthorn in Indian Himalayas, since 1993 and worked on various aspects like
genetic diversity and improvement, biochemical characterization, introduction of
exotic forms and cultivation technologies of seabuckthorn. He is credited with
several research papers and scientific articles on seabuckthorn published in
reputed international and national journals. He has also edited 3 volumes of
book on "Seabuckthorn (Hippophae L.)-A Multipurpose Wonder Plant" in
collaboration with international experts. He has motivated various research
organizations in India to carry out research work on development of appropriate
technologies of seabuckthorn. Dr. Singh was assigned the responsibility with
other three experts, for writing the Constitution of International Seabuckthorn
Association (ISA), of which he has been appointed Member of Board of Directors
since 2001. He is also member of expert committee of ISA on global seabuckthorn
development. In order to enhance the International collaboration and sensitize
the Indian scientists, policy makers, farmers and private companies. Dr. Singh,
along with his team, organized the 6th International Workshop on Seabuckthorn,
on February 18-21, 2001 at India International Center, New Delhi. Dr. Singh was
a member of International Organizing Committees and also chaired sessions of
World Congress on Seabuckthorn, held at Berlin (2003) and Beijing (2005).
2. Prof. Thomas S.C. Li is a famous Canadian seabuckthorn expert, working
at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre,
Summerland, British Columbia. He has done pioneering work on development of
cultivation technologies and development of high yielding cultivars of
seabuckthorn in Canada. He has motivated various research organizations to carry
out research work on development of appropriate technologies of seabuckthorn in
Canada. He has authored several research and scientific papers on seabuckthorn
published in reputed national and international journals. He has also authored a
book on "Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.): Production and Utilization".
He is also member of Board of Directors, International Seabuckthorn Association
and Chairman of International Seabuckthorn Association's Conference, held at
Quebec, on August 12-16,2007.
3. Prof. Lu Rongsen is world famous Chinese seabuckthorn expert, working
at Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, Sichuan.
He has done pioneering work on development of high yielding cultivars of Chinese
seabuckthorn as well as appropriate technologies of seabuckthorn cultivation. He
is also instrumental in creating awareness about potential of seabuckthorn in
other Himalayan countries, while he was posted at ICIMOD, Kathmandu. He has
published widely circulated booklet on "Seabuckthorn- A Multipurpose Plant
species for Fragile Mountains" in 1992, which has proved very useful in
understanding basic information about the plant. Prof. Lu Rongsen, a Member of
Board of Directors, International Seabuckthorn Association, has authored several
research and scientific papers on seabuckthorn published in reputed national and
international journals.
4. Prof. Yury A. Zubarev is a famous Russian seabuckthorn expert and
Deputy Director of Lisavenko Institute of Horticulture For Siberia, Barnaul. He
is involved in various breeding programmes and development of cultivation
technologies of the institute. He has successfully produced a number of high
yielding cultivars of seabuckthorn, which are being widely cultivated in Russia.
He has published many research papers and articles on seabuckthorn in reputed
scientific journals.
