THE BOOK: Insect pests, diseases and fire are the three worst enemies

distribution, marks of identification, life cycle, nature of damage, host plants

Mahogany, Poplar, Spruce, Pine, Bamboo, Sal, Babul, Subabul, Neem, Satinwood and
others. Since pesticides lead several serious problems to man and environment,
more emphasis is given on biological approaches while suggesting control
measures of forest pests. The book is written in simple language with sketches
and photo-graphs relevantly supportive for understanding the various concepts of
pests and their management in forest.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Sathe, Tukaram Vithalrao (M.Sc, Ph.D., Sangit Visharad, IBT (Sen.), F.I.S.E.C., F.S.E.Sc.) Professor in Entomology, Deptt. of Zoology Shivaji University, Kolhapur has teaching experience of 25 years in Entomology at University P.G. course. He is contributory teacher for P.G. Subjects, Agrochemicals and Pest Management and Sericulture since last 12 years. He has published 165 research papers and 24 books viz., "Preet Patangach" (Drama) (1981), Crop Protection from Insects (Marathi) (1991), Sericultural Crop Protection (1998), Biological Pest Control (2000), Cotton Pests and Biocontrol Agents (2001), Insect Pests Predators (2001), Sericulture and Pest Management (2001), Mosquitoes and Diseases (2002), Indian Pest Parasitoids (2003), Agrochemicals and Pest Management (2003), Insect Predators and Pest Management (2003), Shoot Feeding and Sericultural Trends (2004), Vermiculture and Organic Farming (2004), Practicals in Basic Entomology (2005), Fundamentals of Bee Keeping (2006), etc. He guided 15 Ph.D. students and completed 4 major research projects (from CSIR, DST and UGC). He visited Canada (1988), Japan (1988), Thailand (2002, 2004), Spain (2005), France (2005), South Korea (2006), Nepal (2007) for academic work. He is member of editorial board of several journals in India and involved in TV programming of butterflies and moths. He published several popular articles in daily newspapers and delivered several talks through All India Radio. He got several prestigeous awards, "Environmentalist of the year-2003", "International Gold Star", "BharatJyotiAward-2006", "Life Time Education Achievement Award-2006", "Jewel of India", "Education Acumen Award" etc. He also got fellowships from several scientific societies.
